The curtain has lifted on Maisto’s new Drama Queens – the Queens with a Thing for Bling. The brand new action dolls have been unveiled at the 2005 |

Show in New York. The 4” dolls will be articulated and come with accessories that are removable and interchangeable. There will be five different dolls that will be available in five different assortments featuring a variety of accessories and vehicles, all set to retail under $10. “The story line of the dolls is meant to reflect life in the real world,” says Rick Berman, Director of Sales / Marketing / Licensing for Maisto. “The dolls deal with all of the typical dramas of daily life – clothes, hair, boys, and after school activities. Occasionally something regarding school reaches the drama radar screen, but only if there are no issues with clothes, hair, boys, etc…” “The Queens like their cars,” adds Ralph Benitez, the creator of the Drama Queens. “They like them because they are cool. They look good when they are riding in them – you know that’s always important. And we made these dolls to be like all the kids they see in school – they are real – they have dramas. But they want to look good, to have the right shoes, the latest bling. That’s what the DQs are about.” Maisto will offer a song, “It’s a Drama World” on their website, as well as a comic book/catalog. Both will be available for download. Plans are also underway for a “Become A Drama Queen” contest, in which the contest winner will become the 6th Drama Queen Doll. The Maisto brand name was registered in 1990 by May Cheong, a vertically integrated manufacturer based in Hong Kong. The company has been manufacturing die cast for over 30 years, have over 11,000 employees worldwide and manufacturing facilities covering over 2,000,000 square feet. |
