Friday, Oct. 4 will be the tenth 10-4 Day event in Hollywood, California. It's a free car show and parade of police and emergency vehicles (or their clones) used in movies and television.

The Maisto 1955 Buick Century die-cast model represents an authentic California Highway Patrol car. In the early years of the Highway Patrol television show in the mid- to late-'50s the CHP loaned actual patrol cars, including the '55 Buick, for use in the show. Onscreen, generic "Highway Patrol" emblems on the doors covered up the official markings. For details on 10-4 Day and the TV show, go to http://highwaypatroltv.com/. The event is organized by Gary Goltz, the host of the linked website, who will be there with his re-created '55 Buick Highway Patrol car.

The significance of "10-4" (and the reason for the event date being on the fourth day of the tenth month) is that in police radio lingo, 10-4 means "OK," as in "I acknowledge the message that you just sent." In the U.S., CB radio users also spoke the 10- codes. Those phrases could be heard in trucker movies and TV shows that were popular in the '70s and '80s. I think I'll go 10-7 (off duty) now and get over to the doughnut shop.
