Last month our company was honored to attend an event held at the U.S Pavilion at the Shanghai Expo. The event was an awards ceremony held by Walmart Global Sourcing. What was the awards ceremony about?
Here is an excerpt from the press release:
"In response to the challenge of global climate change, and to build a world-leading sustainable supply chain, Mr.
Mike Duke, President and CEO of Walmart Stores, Inc., committed at the Beijing 2008 Sustainability Summit to
enhance collaboration with Chinese suppliers for energy efficiency improvement and natural resources consumption
reduction, as well as to cooperate with 200 top suppliers and factories in China to improve energy by 20% by 2012."
So, why were we invited? Not only were we considered 1 of the top 200 suppliers, but we won 1 of the 3 coveted prizes, the Award of Sustainability Pioneer.
In the first year, our factory achieved a 11% energy savings towards the Walmart goal of 20% by 2012. We are off to a great start, and we are committed to doing our part to improving energy efficiency in our manufacturing processes. It is not always easy, especially with production costs always on the rise, but it is impressive to see the world's largest retailer, Walmart, take a major position in establishing a greener global supply chain, and humbling to be the recipient of an award acknowledging our efforts toward this goal.
